OmniSeps — The Modern Screen Printing Separation Plugin for Photoshop

Color separation has always been one of the most technically demanding parts of screen printing production. Done manually, it takes hours. Done with outdated tools, it produces results that need constant fixing before they reach the press. OmniSeps is built to change that — a modern, professional-grade color separation plugin for Adobe Photoshop that handles the full separation workflow in one place, faster than anything built on older technology.

Built on the Latest Photoshop Platform

OmniSeps is built on UXP — the Universal Extensibility Platform, Adobe's current-generation plugin architecture for Photoshop. UXP is what makes OmniSeps noticeably faster than older Photoshop plugins. Operations that used to take several seconds on legacy tools execute almost instantly, from channel extraction to separation processing.

This is not a plugin ported from old code. OmniSeps was built from the ground up on the modern platform, which means it runs cleaner, responds faster, and integrates more tightly with how Photoshop actually works today.

Always Up to Date — Automatically

One of the most practical advantages of OmniSeps is that it is always current. Updates are delivered automatically — every time you use the plugin, you are running the latest version. No manual downloads, no version checking, no installation steps between updates.

This matters because screen printing workflows evolve. New techniques, new output requirements, new edge cases — when OmniSeps adds support for something new or refines an existing feature, every user gets it automatically. You never fall behind.

What OmniSeps Can Do

OmniSeps covers the full separation workflow across four areas:

Vector Separation

For artwork that is styled as vector — layered designs with flat colors, clean edges, and distinct color zones — OmniSeps includes KnockLayer, an automated tool that converts layered vector-style artwork into a complete set of spot color channels. Before running KnockLayer, every vector layer must be rasterized first. It handles ink order, trapping (customizable expand size), and knockout automatically, and works non-destructively so your original layers are preserved.

For vector artwork coming from Adobe Illustrator as a single merged layer, use OmniChange first as a preprocessing step — adjust and recolor as needed, and use the Frame feature to ensure proper alignment. Separate any raster artwork layers in Adobe Illustrator before proceeding. Once preprocessing is complete, import the artwork into Photoshop via copy paste, then run the vector separation through the number menu in the VECTOR tab. If raster elements are present, use the manual separation through the SEPS tab to handle the raster artwork.

Bitmap and Anti-Moiré

Screen printing films are often output as bitmap — 1-bit black and white images where halftone dots carry the tonal information. OmniSeps includes a built-in anti-moiré system with preset configurations for every common screen printing technique. Each preset is loaded by channel name, so your channels simply need to carry the correct name before conversion. The preset handles frequency, angle, and dot style automatically.

Simulated Process, CMYK, and Grayscale Separation

The SEPS tab is where the core color separation happens:

  • S1 Simulated Process — raster separation for full-color artwork, ideal for designs with minimal screen count
  • S2 Simulated Process — use when S1 doesn't cover enough colors, offering a broader color range for more complex artwork
  • Omni CMYK — CMYK process separation producing multiple channels including underbase white and highlight
  • Grayscale 1 and 2 — luminance-based grayscale separation with standardized channel names for consistent ink preparation
  • Manual Separation — individual color actions for full per-layer control, ideal for supplementing S1 or finishing the raster side of a vector plus raster project

Every separation in this tab is non-destructive — your original artwork is always preserved.

DTF Halftone

For DTF and DTG users who want to give their prints the aesthetic of traditional screen printing — visible halftone raster patterns, the look of manual sablon — OmniSeps includes a dedicated DTF Halftone tool. Frequency, angle, and dot style are all customizable. Three background modes are available: transparent, black, and white.

Pipeline Tools and Utilities

Beyond separation, OmniSeps includes a set of tools for preparing and finishing files:

  • CutAll — trims all layers to remove overlapping pixel areas before separation
  • Merge Same Color — groups layers with similar colors automatically
  • Sort Bright — reorders layers from light to dark for correct ink stacking order
  • Color Bar — reads every channel in the document and generates a mixing reference swatch sheet with Pantone color matching
  • Registration Marks — places film registration marks in four directions, reads the Photoshop ruler for custom placement, with auto-numbering and customizable mark shape

Who Is OmniSeps For?

OmniSeps is built for anyone who does screen printing prepress work inside Photoshop:

  • Screen printing studios that need fast, reliable separation on production files
  • Prepress operators handling complex layered files with mixed vector and raster content
  • Freelance designers doing separation work for clients
  • DTF and DTG operators who want halftone output with a screen-printed aesthetic

Whether you are separating a simple 4-color spot design or a full-color photorealistic artwork for process printing, OmniSeps has a workflow for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OmniSeps work with any version of Photoshop?

OmniSeps is built on UXP, which requires a current version of Adobe Photoshop. It is not compatible with older Photoshop versions that predate UXP plugin support.

Do I need to manually update OmniSeps?

No. Updates are delivered automatically — every time you use the plugin, you are always running the latest version.

Does OmniSeps work for both dark and light garment printing?

Yes. Most separation modes produce underbase and highlight channels for dark garments by default. For white shirts, those channels can simply be removed after separation.

Is OmniSeps only for screen printing?

The core tools are designed for screen printing production, but DTF and DTG operators will find the halftone tools directly useful for their workflow as well.
